How To Register A Gun On Camp Pendleton

After a 10 kilometer night hike through ravines and along steep canyons in crude terrain on Army camp Pendleton, four of the 1st Marine Sectionalization's most elite rifle squads set up patrol bases to await their adjacent challenge.

Squad leaders got their Marines ready for a week-long competition testing their ability to overcome adversity, conduct live-burn down maneuvers and make decisions in a realistic preparation environment.

"The near challenging thing is to keep the boys moving and making sure they're right with their weapons," said Sgt. Darian Heckathorn, a team leader from the 1st Marines, 5th Battalion's Blackfoot Visitor. "We've got to maintain a constant state of awareness. We don't know when and where an enemy is effectually us."

The grooming scenario is part of the annual Super Squad competition for the title of the best infantry team – made up of 13 Marines and a squad leader – in the division.

When the Marine Corps deploys units, the infantry are the footing troops. Rifle squads are the cadre of the Marine infantry. Correct now, nigh fifty of the squads are on the basis at the Kabul airport, securing its perimeter and helping with the evacuations.

To get to this level of competition, the squads outset went through shooting events at the visitor, battalion and regiment levels. In all, there are 250 squads in the sectionalisation and these 4 represent the best of the best. Rifleman competing now represent the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines; 1st Battalion, 5th Marines; tertiary Battalion, 7th Marines; and 3rd Light Armor Reconnaissance Battalion.

"The fashion these squads are existence tested is all about making the squad leader and team prepared to act in uncertainty," 1st Lt. John Stuart, a sectionalisation spokesman, said.

The squads will be evaluated past instructors from the School of Infantry and Marine Corps Air Footing Combat Center in Twentynine Palms.

Operations are continuous over the calendar week, but the highlights include deliberate attacks aided past car guns and mortars, ambushes against robot targets, patrolling operations, and unknown altitude target practice using a multifariousness of weapon systems. The Super Squad scenarios are developed from decades of operational experiences that test the Marines' basic infantry skills under stressful situations, officials said.

The competition began on Monday with the squads – each at their own range – shooting at distance targets, simulating an enemy nearby. Afterward that night, they took a written exam and and then did night training where they looked through their scopes to identify military objects set out in the altitude.

On Tuesday, the squads moved to a new range and ready another patrol base. Just like early Mon, Marines rotated every 45 minutes posting sentries along the patrol base and, again, Heckathorn said he didn't get a lot of sleep.
